Fire crews from Dutchess County were dispatched to a Farm Lane home in Hyde Park at approximately 1:15 a.m. Jan. 8, when a structure fire broke out in a house near the intersection of Route 9, Police Chief Robert Benson announced.
Firefighters fought the blaze and quickly knocked down the flames before eventually being cleared from the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers from the Hyde Park Police Department and Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office gained entry to the home and were “quickly overtaken by the smoke and could not get in,” Benson said. Members of the Hyde Park Fire Department and Fairview Fire Department then took over and battled the blaze, knocking down the flames within approximately 15 minutes.
Benson said that during the fire, the man - whose name is being withheld pending notification of his family - died. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but officials said it is believed to have started in the kitchen area.
